Long Time, No Write? Busy with Antler Baskets

Things have been really hectic around here this last month, so I was not able to write in my Blog on a regular basis, sorry!

Been frantically creating a ton of new antler basket sculptures, gathering wild willow, birch bark, and Native American Sweetgrass and cattails to add to the pieces and purchasing more commercially available materials. This is the first major show of its size to be presented in this northern Minnesota Iron Range region, showcasing my antler basket sculptures combined with watercolor landscapes by Keith Thompson.

I received a $1,000 Career Development grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and the MacKnight Foundation, which made the exhibition and photographic documentation possible. I greatly appreciate their financial funding, assistance and encouragement!

Last week I went down to Minneapolis to my photographer, Peter Lee, and had him professionally slide document 20 pieces. Eventually I will have them all put on a CD and will also have prints made, but am now concentrating and preparing for the upcoming exhibit at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Since they show mostly 2-D artwork and don’t have enough pedestals for all my work, I am making some myself to take over for set-up on the 1st of November. Then on the 2nd am doing a 30 minute spot on Grand Rapid’s local cable access TV station, talking up the exhibition. Yes, Dad, I will be home in time to vote that day! Opening reception for the show is on Friday the 5th, from 5-7 p.m.

Click on the link above which will take you to the Antler Basket page of my domain website where you can see digital photographs that I took of some of the new work. There’s also a link to the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, MN. Enjoy!
