Tolzmann Chair Caning– I was born in St. Paul, MN in 1952. I was adopted as an infant by Raymond F. and Mercedes A. Tolzmann of Forest Lake, MN.
I worked under Raymond Tolzmann, a third-generation (at least) painting and decorating contractor, from 1966 through 1970, during all public school vacations, and again, full-time, from January 1972 to April 1972.
I opened my first furniture restoration service business in 1972 in Forest Lake, MN. I have also done this work in Idaho, Iowa, and California.
I received invaluable instruction in chair caning from Jim Widess of The Caning Shop in Berkeley, CA. My specialization is “hand chair caning.”
