Even though the class was small, we all had a great time up in Grand Marais, MN, at the North House Folk School two-day antler basket class on November 11 & 12, 2006!
Kathryn from Eau Claire, WI, is learning how to drill into the antler for spoke placement. Next, she will insert the reed ribs into the holes and secure with glue.
Here’s Kathryn weaving the body of the antler basket after weaving and securing the butt end and the God’s Eye on the tine side. Her basket is progressing nicely, don’t you think?
In the picture below, Pam from Cokato, MN, is beginning to weave her rib-style antler basket. She’s glued the reed ribs into the holes in the antler.
Now Pam is weaving the God’s Eye to connect the opposite rib ends. Pam’s getting a few helpful suggestions from me on how to shape the rib frame.
Don’t their final products look great? That’s me in the middle with the first antler basket I ever made (1990), which started my love affair with weaving antler baskets!
Join us next time when we create deer antler baskets and deer antler basket sculptures at North House Folk School, Grand Marais, Minnesota.
