Blessings of Country Life

Sunrise in Angora, MM

Blessings of Country Life–Sunrises

Living in the country sure does have it’s blessings, like these gorgeous sunrises for example. The bright pinks, blues, purples, yellows and golds in all the sunrises, simply take my breath away. And it’s surprising to me how fast they change. If I don’t pounce on my camera immediately and take a shot, it’s all changed within minutes.

Blessings of Country Life–Back Yard Deck

I absolutely love the little deck out the back that my son-in-law Joe, built for me in 2013 too. The landscape has changed, since we did some dirt work back there last year, but this is where I spend my mornings now that the temperature has been in the 40s-50s most mornings.

Although I have to admit, I was sitting out there drinking my coffee and listening to the birds yesterday when the temp was only 28 degrees! But there was no wind and the sun was shining brightly as I sat there in my pjs, so it was wonderful. Guess that really proves that I have finally become a REAL northern Minnesota resident, doesn’t it?

Blessings of Country Life–Robins

Saw my first robin last week and now they are all over the yard, finding bugs, building nests, and splashing in the mud puddles and little ponds. Hopefully they will take up residence again in the nest above the garage light, like they have for the last two years.

Then there are all manner of wild birds flying overhead and some that even land in the yard or out in the field, like these Sandhill Cranes. But I’ve also watched and heard Tundra Swans, Canadian Geese, Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Mallards, Hawks, Wilson’s Snipe (who make an woo, woo, woo, winnowing noise with their wings) and then of course many songbirds.

In a couple weeks, I’ll put out all my hummingbird feeders again around the deck, so those little cuties have a place to feed. The first ones usually arrive up here in the middle of May, but sometimes they are earlier, so just to be safe, I’ll put the feeders up early next week.

Blessings of Country Life–Tree Frogs

Although this little guy was on the wall next to the front door when I took the picture last summer, most of the tree frogs are in the pond out back. I was thrilled to hear the first of their croaks of the season a couple nights ago, too.

And this one is inside the top cover for the LP fuel tank…

Most of the frogs are in or near the pond in the back yard, do you see this little guy?

  1. It was so nice to read your “Summary” of Country Life! We are in our 2nd year here in Middle Tennessee and we totally agree with you!!

    1. Thank you Lynne. I’ve lived up here in northern Minnesota on this place for the last twelve years, longest place hubby and I ever lived during the 40 years of marriage.

Absolutely hated it for about the first 5-7 years, coming from the lush, rolling countryside of southern Minnesota, but then it began to grow on me.

And now I finally know why hubby loved it so much and can appreciate this beautiful place, it’s just what my soul needs!

No smog, no jets flying overhead, no car horns honking, no gangs, little crime, but artists and other creatives, willows, pine trees, peat bogs, large lakes, blueberries, quiet, peace and solitude, and wildlife galore!

Country living ROCKS! Oh yeah, we have TONS of those rock thingies, too!
