January 23rd, 2012 · No Comments · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

MONDAY MENTION– New Additions to the National Furniture Repair Directory™ Seatweaving section on WickerWoman.com!

Star of David Chair Caning

With the addition of these three new listings there are a total of 97 Seatweaving/Chair Caning businesses listed in this section alone, 13 are in the Wicker Repair section, 8 in the Furniture Refinishing and 5 in the Upholstery Repair section.

We are so blessed to have these businesses that care about preserving, restoring and refurbishing all these fine furniture pieces, saving them from the garbage dump and maintaining them as a record of our history.

And I am especially blessed to have the majority of the business listings with me since 2004, when I began the National Furniture Repair Directory™.

Be sure to read some of the Testimonials and then if you want to get listed also, visit the Furniture Repair Directory-Advertise page to sign up. Happy Weaving!

Update-TSWG 2nd Annual Gathering

August 31st, 2009 · Comments Off · What's New

English caning weaves

A big THANK YOU goes out to all the dedicated, determined and delightful member organizers and to all attendees of The SeatWeavers’ Guild that made our 2nd Annual Gathering on July 31-August 3, 2009, such a great success!

Mindy King and Bonnie Rashleigh, the event planning committee, did another super job organizing the venue at Robbins Crossing in Nelsonville, OH. Thanks to everyone on the staff at The Inn at Hocking College for the fine meeting room, motel rooms and restaurant facilities, too.

We’d also like to thank Norm Fox, the Director at Robbins Crossing and his very amiable cooking crew for providing us the space and the fantastic home-cooked (on wood stove no less) lunch for all our attendees. TSWG-lunch

Our theme this year was “Adventures in Advanced Chair Caning Patterns” and the demonstrators provided quite an array of interesting patterns, which were unfamiliar to and never attempted by most of our attendees. Some demonstrations were actual hands-on audience experience, some explained their designs, some used hand-out instructions, and some used a combination of all three.

As before in previous years that we “gathered,” there in Nelsonville, we had a dedicated time for sharing of hints, tips and tools. All of this was to help broaden the individual chair seat weaver’s awareness of what’s available to them. And tips are also shared to help speed up the weaving process in a lot of cases, which makes us weavers more productive and improves each person’s bottom line in their business.

Then too, we had our annual general membership meeting, where we elected board members and ratified our by-laws. Incorporation of our chair caning guild is currently in process as we speak.

New Seatweaving Guild Featured in Newspaper Article!

July 11th, 2007 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

Chair caning expert, Mindy King of Guysville, OH is featured in an article from The Athens Messenger, which tells about the new National Seatweavers Guild she’s helping to establish this weekend in Nelsonville, OH at Robbins Crossing.

Joining Mindy are several other chair caning experts from the Seatweaving Forum at http://disc.server.com/Indices/220033.html, attending from eight states and the province of Canada.

This new guild accepts weavers of all levels from the novice to the veteran professional, so the craft of chair seat weaving doesn’t really become a “lost art.”
