We all had so much fun at the art gallery artist reception opening last Friday night, July 8, 2011 at the MacRostie Art Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

It was a great event with a really good turnout of about 75 people on a beautiful, sunny evening, which encouraged everyone to be out and about and gallery hopping.

Furniture maker Peter Pestalozzi and I, with my antler basket sculptures, were paired up in the MacRostie Gallery with our show, “Nature Refined” and then photographer Gayle Streier was in the Minnesota Gallery with “Vernacular,” her black and white nature photographs.

We each gave a little talk on our chosen art medium, which was fun, too. The show runs through the end of July, so if you are in the area be sure to stop in for a visit.

Antler Basket Art Presentation at Ely Library

Peters with antler baskets

On March 2, 2011 at 6 p.m. I will be speaking about my craft of antler basketmaking at the Ely Minnesota Public Library as the first of a three part series at libraries across the Iron Range.

In December of last year I was honored to be contacted by an Arrowhead Library System board member to see if I’d be interested in giving the presentations included as part of the Arts and Cultural Heritage Library Legacy and the Minnesota State Arts Board.

I love sharing my art with others so this lecture will be lots of fun to do. Weather is supposed to be fairly cold, but all of the folks living in Ely are well used to that!

The audience attending my presentation will get a close-up view of the baskets and short demonstration as to how the antler “speaks” to me, telling me what shape and design the basket is to be. I’ll also be bringing some baskets in various stages of completion so they can see what the weaving process encompasses.

So, if you are in the Ely, Minnesota area on Wednesday, March 2nd, please stop and say “Hello” at the Ely Public Library at 30 South First Avenue East or call (218)365-5140 for more information.

This project was funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s art and cultural heritage.

Minnesota Public Radio Membership Drive

February 20th, 2011 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

Classical Music Station--Minnesota Public Radio My comment about listening to MPR as I work in my studio was read on Minnesota Public Radio’s membership drive last week when I decided to renew my sustaining membership online. Since there was a place for giving comments, I did just that.

“I need MPR classical music  playing each day in the background at work while I’m in my studio weaving antler baskets, chair caning and restoring antique wicker furniture, because it grounds and centers me, keeping me sane throughout the day.”

And wouldn’t you know the DJ, Mindy Radner, read my comment and talked quite a bit about my business! Talk about a good advertisement for The Wicker Woman®, thank you MPR!
