November 30th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

The National Blog Posting Month website posed a contest for all bloggers to make a blog post every day for the 30 days of November.

So, I jumped on the bandwagon at the first of this month and joined the contest, committing to making at least one post a day for 30 days during the month of November.

I’m happy to report that I MADE IT! Whew, that’s the first time in over five years of blogging here that I’ve actually made a blog a day for 30 days!

How did all the rest of you do?

I'm Doing the Nielsen TV Rating Survey!

November 27th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a representative of the Nielsen TV Rating Company and asked if I’d like to participate in doing their TV watching surveys.

I’ve always wanted to do this, since I first heard about them in the early 1950s. So here was my chance and I jumped at it right away! The instructions were very easy to comply with and I’m to just keep a diary of all the TV watching that takes place in our home.

I now have my TV in the studio, so I watch it mostly during the afternoon and evenings when I’m doing chair caning, antler basketweaving or wicker repair. Mornings are my most productive time for writing, so hardly ever watch during the mornings. And hubby almost never

What are your TV watching patterns? What are your favorite shows and can/do you watch during basketweaving or other craft times?

WEDNESDAY WICKER WISDOM — Wicker Repair Techniques

November 25th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

This wicker chair is listed in the book, Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company Classic Wicker Furniture, The Complete 1898-1899 Illustrated Catalog.  It’s on page 33 or [65 & 66] of the original catalog, as a Lady’s Arm Chair, #6041 A.

Here are some of the many repairs made to this lovely wicker chair I did several years ago.  This chair had been painted somewhere along the line, so my customer took it to a furniture refinisher/stripper and had the paint removed before bringing it to me for the wicker repairs.

There were already broken areas on the piece before the stripping, but that process added a bit more work for me to do in order to restore this piece to almost the original condition.

The close-woven seat needed to be replaced, curlicues were broken and had to be replaced, spokes and braid in arms/back were broken, swag reed rope need replacing and minor leg wraps were done, too.

It has fancy braid work around the back, with reed rosettes and swag reed rope, many, many curlicues and a close-woven sheet cane seat. Simply a marvelous old piece and quite comfortable, too! Customer was going to do final stain and varnish finishing.

MONDAY MENTION — Shawn Driscoll

November 23rd, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

This week’s MONDAY MENTION is a bit of a departure from my normal chair caning, wicker or basketry topic, but I’m sure will be very beneficial to all of my readers.

I was on Twitter this morning checking the new feature of Listing, when I came across a #FridayFollow by a person I was already following. She recommended following life and business coach, Shawn Driscoll as a person she would follow anywhere.

So, typical of the way things work on Twitter, I followed my peep’s recommendation and was delighted to read all about Shawn from Shawn’s Twitter account, and then clicked on her domain website, too ShawnDriscoll.com

There I found her blog, which I subscribed to right away and got her free audio download about how-to improve your business and your attitude about business.

Now I have also BeFriended her on Facebook, so we’re all set! I think this is one lady you’d be happy to get in touch with and have her as one of your Peeps and Friends, too!
