Pamela Zimmerman's Needle Grabber ™

March 28th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

I’m not a very hot and heavy pine needle basketmaker, and don’t do coiling much at all. But I do use the coiling basket technique with the sweetgrass I gather from my property, and also use coiling when creating my bee skeps (bee hives) for my classes.

So when I read in the March 16th issue of Weaver’s Words and on the Pine Needle Group about Pamela Zimmerman’s Needle Grabber(tm) finger protector, I was intrigued.

My index finger gets really sore from trying to push the needle through the sweetgrass, straw and cattail leaves I use with the bee skeps, so this rubber finger protector sounds like it will be just the clear ticket. It saves on the joints and also protects your finger pad.

Order yours from Pam today–you’ll be glad you did!

"Web & Flow" National Basketry Organization's Exhibition

March 18th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

Members of the National Basketry Organization (NBO) are featured in an exhibition called, “Web & Flow” at the Textile Center, Joan Mondale Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota from March 6 — April 18, 2009.

I can’t wait to get down there to see this fantastic show and to see what baskets the 53 members submitted to the jury. I believe each artist was able to submit three pieces. Rebecca McEntee’s “Pyramid Vessel” graces the cover of the advertising postcard.

I missed the jury deadline so was not able to submit, but I see by the advertising postcard that many of my friends did get in! Congrats to everyone! I’m going this weekend so it should be fun. Will also visit family and grandkids while I’m down in the Twin Cities!

Not too long ago I stumbled across a really neat, very interesting blog by a woman out in New Mexico. The basketmakers name is Nancy Jacobs and her blog is called Basketmaster’s Weavings

She’s relatively new to the blogging scene, but is doing a terrific job at spreading the word about basketmaking; she’s offering Tuesday Technique Tips, a couple videos, instruction book recommendations and much, much more.

Take a look as soon as you can and tell Nancy, “I found you through the Weavin’ Wicker Woman’s blog.” Happy Weaving Everyone!

Wicker Chair Transformation!

March 5th, 2009 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

Look at the great wicker chair transformation that Boon did on the wicker chair she purchased on Craigslist. Visit Boongoggle’s blog today to see the details and photos!

She took an old beat-up 1930s wicker chair, painted it and reupholstered the seat cushion to cover the hand-tied springs underneath on this late 1920s-1930s piece.

Great job! Way to go girlfriend!
