Natural Rush Seatweaving Class Listing in John C. Campbell Folk School Catalog

December 15th, 2007 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

Here’s the online catalog description of my week-long
Natural Rush Seatweaving Class coming up June 29-July 5, 2008 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.

This is an Intermediate Level weaving class with previous seatweaving experience a must, and preferably in paper fibre rush. We will work with both natural cattail leaves and imported bulrush, completing at least one chair or footstool, but probably two during the class.

Students must bring a chair or footstool with an open rail or post and rail seat. Additional footstools will be available for purchase from instructor.

If you are interested in taking this first -time ever offered class at the Campbell Folk School, sign up immediately so the class won’t be canceled for lack of student minimum.

Hand-Twisted Rush Seatweaving in 2008 Campbell Folk School Catalog

December 3rd, 2007 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

I received the 2008 full-color catalog for the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina today! It features my hand-twisted natural rush seatweaving class, offered June 29-July 5, 2008.

I poured over each class listing (after reading the description of my Hand-Twisted Natural Cattail & Bulrush Seatweaving course, first), and was really impressed by the vast number of new classes and new instructors.

I must admit though, I was disappointed that they did not use any of the pictures I sent along with my course description. They certainly would have helped to advertise this very rarely and never-before-offered class at the Folk School.

Featuring the photos might also expose more potential students to the experience of working with such unusual materials, thereby resurrecting this nearly lost art of hand-twisted natural rush seat weaving.

If you have some previous experience in seat weaving, or would just like to experience this creative and historic weaving technique, sign up for the class right away. If you wait and the minimum students are not signed up in advance, the class will be canceled.

You can go to their website and request a catalog, or sign up immediately online. http://www.folkschool.org

Snow, Snow and More Snow!

December 2nd, 2007 · Comments Off · Weavin' Wicker Woman Blog

December is coming in with a BIG BANG! We are under Winter Storm Warning, expecting 16 inches of snow tonight!!!!

One nice thing though, snow means it’s going to warm up a bit! It’s actually warmed up from 11 below zero this morning to to 19 degrees above this evening! Wheeee!

We have at least eight inches of snow already that fell today on top of a previous 3-4 inches and more is falling fast! Time to get out the 4×4 truck, I guess!

Good time to stay indoors weaving antler baskets and getting ready for my solo exhibition in Virginia, MN during March and April, 2008! Stay safe and warm ya’ll.
